Its a sad day in NYC ladies and gentleman. NYC has voted no on the bill passing same sex marriage. Not only is the LGBT community upset about this decision, they are taking action. They staged a protest yesterday at 6pm in Time Square to show there dissaproval of the bill not being passed. The bill failing is just a minor set back! We will not be forced to live as second class citizens and denied a future with the ones we love. We just have to try a little harder! Keep your heads up and hearts open!!

Hate crimes have risen 11% over the past year……

According to PerezHilton.com , the FBI has reported that hate crime numbers have raised 11% in the past year. This is the third year in the row that number has increased! This is a shame! We have got to do better people! Tolerance is a must! Stop raising ignorant ass people in to dumb @$* adults!

In any event, the LGBT community is shining brighter than ever and will NOT stand for the mistreatment or the abuse! Hopefully Obama’s new policy fighting hate crimes will help these numbers decrease just as quickly as they increased!

It’s a sad say in Puerto Rico and the LGBT community. Nineteen year old LGBT boy Jorge Lopez was found beaten, burned, and decapitated a few miles away from his home. This is reportedly the first time any gay hate crimes have been openly acknowledged in Puerto Rico. What makes the situation even sadder is the fact that police investigator on the case was making comments like “people who lead this type of lifestyle need to be aware that this will happen.” Ummm…we think not sir. His murderer was found and claimed the reason for the murder was not on purpose and that he was trying to pick up a woman and was upset when he discovered Jorge wasnt a woman. He claims he was in prison years before that and had a flashback from when he was in jail and was raped by another inmate……Well sir, it looks like your going right back to where you cam from. JAIL AND, even if the man was startled by what he found, what the hell was he doing trying to pick up a woman in the red light district?? I really hope justice is served in this case…..This is very sad and Jorge’s parents and family are in our prayers. People have really got to do better.

Wow. Its a sad day in Washington. The Catholic church has rleased statements saying that they would pull there funding from charities around Washington if the same sex marriage bill passed and became effective. The Mormon church and the Baptist chirch have both stepped in and scolded the catholic church for there disgusting behavior.

“The Catholic Church hierarchy is at a crossroads: they must decide whether they are in the charity business for charity’s sake, or if imposing their will on the D.C. City Council and the citizens of the District is their primary interest.”

This is just one of the many statements released by members of the Baptist church in reference to the Catholic church. Shame on you! Get your priorities straight! After all, who’s popes and priest are the ones abusing kids??

OUTSTANDING news in LGBT land people!!!! Drum roll please……..President Barack Obama has signed the hate crime protection act ! The bill was passed in to law this afternoon and will work punish people who are responsible for hate crimes and/or crimes based on sexual orientation/race/gender/or religious background.

The parents of Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. started pushing for this policy over a decade ago and are ecstatic legislative branches have finally realized how important of an issue this is.

“We appreciate everyone who worked so hard on this bill.  My son was taken at such an early age and we hope this law will help prevent other families from going through what we experienced,” said Stella Byrd, mother of James Byrd.  “Even though we’re different colors and different sexual orientations or gender identities, God made us all and he loves us all.”

The LGBT community is excited and proud to see the government taking action in making streets safer for people to openly live there life. We are only a few steps away from receiving the equality we deserve! Thank you Barack Obama! This is the first pro-gay bill passed and set in stone since Stonewall!

Whats the tea in LGBT land? Academy award-winning screen writer and LGBT boy Dustin Lance Black was banned from speaking at Hope College in Michigan after the Dean of students said he was too opinionated of a speaker. The deans exact words were “from past experience, strongly opinionated speakers usually don’t further academic discussions about gay, lesbian or transgender issues.”

What an insult to Black, the students, and the LGBT community. The screenwriters talk with students was going to be focused on the aspects of screenwriting, and then an open discussion on sexuality. Students gay, and straight were upset about the deans decision to ban the screenwriter from speaking and some students wrote letters and spoke out on the issue. This is just another sad example of homophobia thriving in the world.

Physical attacks on people based on sexual orientation will now officially be considered a hate crime and will be punishable by the U.S. government and law officials. In the past 11 years, over 80,000 hate crimes based on sexual orientation have taken place and only a few of them have been acknowledged. This will all change soon! 2010 will be a GREAT year for the gays! Remember it only takes one voice to make a change! Lets go!

LGBT news seems like its revolving more and more around the homophobia that partakes at schools. Howard University is trying to pass a new dress code banning students from wearing a variety of male fashion accessories ( du rags, grills & sunglasses) as well as any types of women clothing. It sounds crazy to me to even have factored that into any dress code but, whatever. These are the rules they want to enforce:

1. No caps, do-rags and/or hoods in classrooms, the cafeteria, or other indoor venues. This policy item does not apply to headgear considered as a part of religious or cultural dress.

2. Sun glasses or “shades” are not to be worn in class or at formal programs, unless medical documentation is provided to support use.

3. Decorative orthodontic appliances (e.g. “grillz”) be they permanent or removable, shall not be worn on the campus or at College-sponsored events.

4. Jeans at major programs such as, Opening Convocation, Commencement, Founder’s Day or other programs dictating professional, business casual attire, semi-formal or formal attire.

5. Clothing with derogatory, offense and/or lewd messages either in words or pictures.

6. Top and bottom coverings should be work at all times. No bare feet in public venues.

7. No sagging–the wearing of one’s pants or shorts low enough to reveal undergarments or secondary layers of clothing.

8. Pajamas, shall not be worn while in public or in common areas of the College.

9. No wearing of clothing associated with women’s garb (dresses, tops, tunics, purses, pumps, etc.) on the Morehouse campus or at College-sponsored events.

10. Additional dress regulations may be imposed upon students participating in certain extracurricular activities that are sponsored or organized by the College (e.g. athletic teams, the band, Glee Club, etc).

11. The college reserves the right to modify this policy as deemed appropriate.

While the fact they want to stay professional and clean should be applauded, the outright homophobia and direspect towards peoples freedom of self expression is ridicolous. For one, how do you tell a bunch of grown ass men that they cant wear whatever attire they feel most comfortable in? Whatever happened to freedom to express yourself? The fact that Morehouse is so critical of people based off of apperance makes me wonder…. and not in a good way.

Theres alot of drama surrounding a school in Jackson Mississippi this week. 17 year old Ceara Sturgis was told she could not where a tuxedo in her Senior Pictures in her high school yearbook. The teengaer was outraged and has been voicing her dissaproval towards the school and there unfair ethics.

I feel like I’m not important, that the school is dismissing who I am as a gay student and that they don’t even care about me. All I want is to be able to be me, and to be included in the yearbook,” Sturgis said in a statement.”

Sturgis mother told school officials and press that her daughter is a lesbian and has never been an extremely feminine person. She doesnt feel like she should have to change who she is for anyone. Fam make sure you go to the link and contact the school to support this school. This is a start! write them a letter, call them or email them! Our voices will be heard!

atlantaeagle

The Atlanta Pd has joined forces with  the ignorant brigade of asshole gay bashing cops (Dallas Pd and New York Pd departments). This past thursday, victims were picked up at the Atlanta gay bar and were told to get on the floor while they were searched and i.d.’d without reason or probable cause as to WHY…Anyways, before they left they told everyone that they “hated fags” and that what they did was “fun and should happen every week.”

Wow. Is this what the Atlanta Pd ride around and do on there nights? The LGBT community came back to protest and demand a public apology (which I dont think is enough). While its wonderful the LGBT community was able to come together and be heard, its sad that we have to keep going through this struggle….

Femme fans are you ready for a great news update?? Representative Jerrold Nadler is pushing to do away with the Defense of Marriage Act. The DOMA act is the act which allows states to deny gay couples who have already been married under prop 8 before it was appealed the rights and privelages they deserve as  LEGALLY MARRIED COUPLES. DOMA has affected everyone in the LGBT communtiy who is married, and is unconstituional in the fact that its laws stem from discrimination against gays……. Perhaphs a day too late and a nickel short, Nadler has questioned overturning DOMA and has the support of LGBT members everywhere. We will have our rights very soon!
